The Obsessive Neurotic Gardener

Quick one today.

I have been carefully monitoring the two Monarch caterpillar chrysalis that were chilling on the side of my house the past week. Well, I missed the first butterfly emerging but was psyched this morning, when I captured the other one on his way out.

Here is the cycle in photos:

Pretty cool, huh? The kids have been mesmerized by it and what an education for them. All it took was planting a few Milkweed plants picked up at a native plant sale this Spring.

Good times

My brother used to bring them into his bedroom for hatching. It was fun to see them come out and fly around his room. But then we had to catch them and let them out.
What special photos…I am glad I came by to take a look-see.

Magical, isn’t it? I have milkweed, but sadly no caterpillars or butterflies. Doesn’t stop me hoping, though. Long live the Monarch!

I absolutely adore this. Monarchs have special meaning for me – I shared once about “Dena” the Monarch on my blog: http://my-over-the-fence.blogspot.com/2008/07/dena.html
How I would LOVE to see a transformation such as this within my own yard, but alas, I never have.
    Thanks for sharing. Awesome photos!
