The Obsessive Neurotic Gardener

To my dismay, I wasn’t going to be able to find the time to attend the annual Philadelphia Flower Show this year. Life and work was getting in the way.
But, an email delivered to my Inbox on Wednesday night changed all that. It mentioned the fact that the show was open until 9:30 PM each night and the crowds would be a lot more manageable. Hot damn, that’s it! I’ll just take the one hour drive right after work on Thursday and brave the traffic on RT 95.
The one hour drive turned out to be closer to two hours but it was all worth it.
The theme this year was “Hawaii, Islands of Aloha” and as is always the case with this show, it didn’t disappoint. I’m still recovering from sensory overload.
But enough about me, I’ll let the photos tell the story:

It wasn’t all tropical:

And a quick preview of my next post.

My absolute favorite display of all was “Garden of the Gods” which was chock full of a number of different Carex grasses:

Anyone else attend? What did you think?

John

WOW! I wish I could go to see all that beauty in person but 3 hrs drive in one direction is not realistic 🙁 but what an inspiration to try to make my own this colorful!

Lovely! Thanks for the share. Flower shows at the end of winter make such a difference. Flower shows pump me up the gardening season.

Next year I will try to make it down. My drive would probably be 10 hours! I will have to fly down…

Wow! Thanks so much for posting these! I’ve seen a few pictures from people on Facebook, but it’s so wonderful to see this many photos all at once! WooHoo! It looks like it was a real feast for the senses. I’m glad you found the time to go.

I attended the show but didn’t see the first exhibit because the crowd was so dense. But your photos of many exhibits that I did see are gorgeous.

Agreed! The pictures are amazing. I’m impressed that you took that long drive to attend. It reminds me of the time I was insisted on going to Longwood Gardens in PA, dragging my husband and son with me. They were so bored, but I was fascinated!

I was there yesterday on a bus trip from Columbia,MD. Crowds were so dense so some of the displays were not seen close up. I really enjoyed shopping the vendors. I missed the judged individual plant categories because the friends I was with were not into that. I posted in two parts on my blog about it if you want to compare photos. http://birdsbloomsbooksetc.blogspot.com/

What a dedicated gardener to drive for two hours and what a magnificent reward these images make.
