Bittersweet – pleasure alloyed with pain
- The temperature outside could not be more comfortable.
- The humidity is gone.
- The mosquitoes have packed their bags and left.
- The foliage and leaf colors are fantastic:

Yet I can’t get rid of this feeling of dread that threatens to take over me.

I have come to truly appreciate those plants that “die well”, but I get the most pumped watching foliage continue to grow or blooms rounding into form like in the two photos below:

I know the change of season is inevitable and a fact of life, but that doesn’t mean I have to simply accept it, right?
Of course, I also reserve the right to change my mind and rant and rave about how beautiful the Fall is.
Give me one second, I need to look up the definition of schizophrenic.

Interesting. Fall always fills me with a huge wave of relief–I’m dead tired this time of year, and I love winter. I love the idea of nestling down, settling in for a long winter’s nap, as it were. But I love winter and snow, too.
I love fall, gives me a new hope of doing better next year. I plan my moves, designs and colors in the fall. As I cut something down I think do you really belong here? You would be surprised how many times the answer is no and I start moving things around.
I love to plant bulbs and they should be arriving soon. I guess fall for me is the hope of what’s to come!

but then when I think of winter I feel sad. I like snow but not much falls in st louis so it is often gray and dull.

At this very moment in Western Australia (south) it is raining a beautiful drenching rain that is a welcome finish to the cropping season, I truly appreciate your gorgeous fall colours, we dont get the same contrast here, not cold enough.
