Win $100 to Santa Rosa Gardens (revised)

Posted on February 17, 2014 by jmarkowski Posted in Giveaways .

I’m man enough to admit when I’m wrong.

Specifically, man enough to admit that a gardening game show/podcast ain’t the best idea in the world (but it WILL be revisited in the future).

There was not one response to my idea from last Wednesday, so time for a reboot. I still have that $100 gift card burning a hole in my pocket and I need to give it away to one of you. So here’s the deal.

Simply leave a comment on this post, along with your email address, telling me the one plant you would like to acquire from Santa Rosa Gardens and I will pick a random winner from all of those who comment. A few additional details:

  • The contest will run from now until Sunday night, February 23rd at 9:00 PM
  • The winner will be announced on the blog later that night
  • The winner will receive the gift card via email directly from Santa Rosa Gardens
  • Only those in the United States are eligible

So let’s try this again, shall we?

Who wants to win $100 to Santa Rosa Gardens?

Posted on February 13, 2014 by jmarkowski Posted in Giveaways .

For an upcoming podcast, I am temporarily converting it into a “Gardening Game Show”.

Yeah you heard me. Who wants in?

I will be narrowing down all entrants to three lucky contestants who will join my podcast/game show and answer gardening/plant trivia questions with the winner taking home the grand prize of a $100 gift certificate to Santa Rosa Gardens.

To be eligible to win, all you need to do is leave a comment on this post indicating what one plant you would like to acquire from Santa Rosa Gardens. To see their full plant listing, click here.

Entrants must reside in the Unites States and the gift certificate can be delivered to the winner via email or a hard copy can be sent via the USPS.

The contest will run from right now until 9:00 PM EST on Tuesday, February 18th. The three finalists will be randomly chosen at that time and will be announced on the blog soon after.

Once the three finalists have been chosen, I will send out further details on the date and time of the show, the nature of the trivia questions and the specific rules.

So enter now and get in on the good times!

Santa Rosa Gardens $100 giveaway

Posted on March 20, 2012 by jmarkowski Posted in Giveaways .

Yeah, you read that right.

I am going to give one lucky reader a $100 gift card to THE Santa Rosa Gardens online nursery.

I have ordered a large number of ornamental grasses from Santa Rosa Gardens in the past and they are always sent in perfect shape and thrive after they have been planted. An awesome selection and are always sold at a reasonable price.

But they are way more than just ornamental grasses, check out their selection of perennial plants and drool a little bit.

So how do you enter this contest you ask?

  • Leave a comment on this post indicating what one plant you would like more than any other from Santa Rosa Gardens.
  • Include your email address in the same comment.
  • Contest is only for those in the United States (excluding Hawaii and Arizona).
  • Contest will run until Sunday, March 25 at 8:00 PM.
  • Winner will be chosen at random and announced right after the deadline.
  • Winner will receive the gift card via email directly from Santa Rosa Gardens.

Best of luck my friends!

Timber Press book giveaway – “50 Beautiful Deer-Resistant Plants”

Posted on August 12, 2011 by jmarkowski Posted in Book reviews, Deer, Giveaways .

As you know, I struggle mightily with deer chowing down on my plants throughout the year. I’ve tried using deer repellents and while I have had success, there is a need to continue the applications on a regular basis, especially each time after it rains. It can be very difficult to keep up with.

As a result, I’ve come to appreciate the truly “deer resistant” plants which I can put in the ground and then give the deer the middle finger knowing they won’t touch them. It also reduces my over the top, plant stress level. Just ask my wife.

The problem I have, however, is that my “deer resistant” plant palette is quite limited. Well guess what? There is a new book out on the market that is music to my ears:

And guess what else? Timber Press, the publisher of this gem, is giving away a copy of the book. You can access this contest on the Timber Press giveaway page and can follow along as the contest unfolds on the Timber Press blog.

So head on over and give it a shot. You can enter up to four times and the contest ends on August 17th.

** Quick side note showing you how cool I am. I sat at the same dinner table with both the author of this book, Ruth Clausen, and the photographer of this book, Alan Detrick, in the Dallas Arboretum during last year’s Garden Writer’s Conference. I am by no means exaggerating when I say they were two of the most kind and warm people I’ve ever met. I was a schlubby garden blogger who had no right being there yet they made me feel right at home. I’ll never forget the experience. **

How you like me now?

And the winner of the $100 to Santa Rosa Gardens is …

Posted on March 4, 2011 by jmarkowski Posted in Giveaways .

Before I announce the winner, I wanted to let you all know I had 52 entries which was an awesome turn-out and thank you all for participating.

I used random.org to pick the winner but couldn’t get the screen shot into this post so you’ll just have to trust me … and why wouldn’t you?

Anyway, the random number chosen was 4 so I picked the 4th comment on the original contest post and that commenter, and winner of this esteemed contest is … MeemsNYC!

Congrats and I will have the gift certificate sent to you via email in the very near future.

Let me throw one last set of “props” to Santa Rosa for sponsoring the contest. And one last photo of my treasured Miscanthus ‘Gracillimus’ I purchased from them a few years back:

Have a great weekend everyone!

$100 giveaway to Santa Rosa Gardens

Posted on February 25, 2011 by jmarkowski Posted in Giveaways .

I am super psyched to announce a new $100 giveaway to Santa Rosa Gardens.

I have ordered from this on-line nursery numerous times in the past and I can tell you that every plant purchased was way high quality. Typically, I order ornamental grasses from them because the selection is tremendous and I can find many unique options that I cannot find locally. And just to prove that I have ordered from them before, here is a shot of a delivery I received this past Fall:

While I love me some ornamental grasses, Santa Rosa Gardens offers so much more than that. As their tag line states, they specialize in “perennials and unique garden plants”. They also have a fantastic selection of succulents and aquatics. It is super easy to navigate their site and narrow down your search. It will keep you busy for a while, trust me.

Are you pumped up? You feeling my excitement? To enter all you need to do is head on over to their website by clicking one of the links above or click here and leave a comment on this post, indicating which one plant you would order from them. I will be running the contest from now until 5:00 PM EST next Friday, March 4th. At that point, I will choose the winner using an online random generator. I’ll announce the winner on this blog and will just ask for the winner’s email address so the gift certificate can be mailed to you.

There are shipping limitations as Santa Rosa can only ship in the contiguous United States and cannot ship plants to Arizona and Hawaii, but could ship hard good to these states.

Good luck and thanks ahead of time for entering.
