Third cup of black coffee down the hatch. Disrobed down to my boxers in the laundry room. Lifted the lid to the washing machine and pulled out my dirty, damp, stinky clothes from the day prior. Why soil a new sweatshirt, new pants and socks. Yes, I felt icky as hell but it transformed me back to outdoor-chore-guy. I like him. He gets shit done.

Even when the poorly drained soil impedes his path.

He finds a way to allow the daffodils to breathe.

And finds a way to chop through the brush so the crocus can do their thing.

I feel your impatience! I live in southern Ontario and we have crocus blooming and daffodils budding but our grass isn’t quite as green as yours and there is still a smattering of snow. Soon I will be able to get out my favourite spring accessories…duck boots, garden gloves, and hand pruners! Meanwhile I have to get my garden fix from bloggers. Thanks for sharing the eye candy.

I was sure I was the only gardener who wears the prior day’s clothes when my weekend is on a tear of productivity!

Someone vandalized my garden behind my apt. building where I live in Manhatta, NY.
They painted lines of white paint going through my plantings and past a new tree I planted.
I pulled out as much paint as I could. I’m afraid a lot of things will be killed. I put down fresh
soil to compensate and pulled out painted mulch! Any suggestions?

I’ve missed you so much!! I think I’m you in female 72 year old form, I always identify with everything you write! I too have decided to revolutionize my garden but I’m not hiring anyone to help me. At least not yet.
Please keep writing, you’re my garden alter ego. I need your insights, both good and ‘bad’.

r a Love to hear I’m not the only one to wear dirty garden clothes two days in a row; smells so accomplished at the end of the day. I’m in Wisconsin with snow coming down, robins in the yard. I can’t wait for sunshine and spring blossoms. Seems early for the robins but they are just as mess up as our world with being back for a few weeks; I wish they would eat bird food. Loved the tease of spring; have my seeds under the light and waiting to get back out there. Thanks for the inspiring pictures of grass last year; what will this year bring us!

Hi John! You have discovered what I discovered about 5 years back. Unfortunately, my prompt was the need to recuperate after surgery; therefore, I needed someone to help me until I was fully recovered. Guess what?!! I recovered but since it was a lot more fun AND more productive gardening once a week with someone else, he is still working with me! I do a lot of the fussy detail stuff, while he does the work that I hate – edging, hedge trimming, etc. But hey! He’s paid and I’m just enjoying the creation of beauty all around our house! Happy gardening! There’s always something new to learn!
    Regards, Emily
