The Obsessive Neurotic Gardener

Please note the hat in the pic above. Some notes on said cap:

I received it as a surprise Christmas gift in the mail a few weeks back.
Upon its reveal, I felt a palpable sting of inspiration.
Why? Because I, in fact, am the Plant Fuckin Daddy.
This Plant Daddy is going to kill it in the garden in 2025.
And the killing will be documented in a daily journal where I will wax poetic about my gardening excellence and laugh in the face of my few failures.

I’m 52 years old.
I’m achy 100% of each day.
My son will be moving out of the house this summer and my daughter is a freshman all the way down south at the University of Georgia. I’m not sure how much longer we will remain in our home. It’s not the same without the four of us residing here regularly.
So with than in mind, I’m going to do my best to document and relish in the garden this year. I want to fully immerse myself in the process (not the results) and I want to have a record of it so I can reread and rewatch from my future rocking chair.

Stay tuned.

Oh, this is like an old friend coming back into your life! I’m so happy to see your post. While you’re doing YOUR thing, my spring plan is to pull stuff OUT of my overgrown garden, divide and pot up some of them, put up a canopy at the end of the driveway, and sell sell sell!!
In my garden, I’m planning to showcase my favorite and larger perennials, then plant mostly annuals around them! I’ve grown tired of the perennials’ 2-3 weeks worth of blossoms and then they’re done for another year!
    Any tips on this plan?

Have been wondering how you have been – have missed your irreverent posts. And your spectacular gardens!

A bit of advice from an empty-nester — before you flee your home and garden, consider — in a few years your fledglings are likely to return with partners and families, and you will once again be glad of your larger home.

John, I’ve really enjoyed watching you and your gardens grow. Be open to new ideas and places as your children become independent because this is when life gets fun for parents. Looking forward to your gardening journal

Glad to have you back. I’ve missed your posts. As others have said, it won’t be long before the “kids” show up with significant others. I’m turning 70 in July and know all about daily aches and pains but I keep on Gardening. Need something to keep me motivated to keep moving. I live in MN, so winter interest is what I can see from my windows. Some years the snow is so deep everything is covered up and most years we have have cold snaps that will freeze your nose hairs. Keep on keeping on.
